WHY I CAN’T CRY: 11 REAL REASONS FOR INABILITY TO CRY

Below mentioned could be the possible reasons why someone just can’t cry.

1-WHY CAN’T I CRY-YOUR PERSONALITY

Your personality and will power play an important role in expressing your emotions.

Some people are very impassive and are emotionally strong.

They never cry or shed tears.

2-WHY CAN’T I CRY-MENTAL ILLNESS:

Psychological and mental disorders can also affect your cognition.

Your psychological state matters in this regard.

In some disorders, a person starts crying on small things while in other ones, emotions got stuck and the person is unable to express his feelings.

He finds it difficult to cry.

3- I CAN’T CRY DUE TO SOCIAL PRESSURE:

Human beings are social animals.

They get affected by the society they live in. Their behavior and attitudes are shaped by the influence of their environment.

Conformity is a type of social influence that specifies a change in behavior and attitudes.

For example, if a person is shy and sensitive, then he/she might withhold his/her tears and pretend to be strong.

4- UPBRINGING DOESN’T ALLOW ME CRYING:

Some individuals are told in their childhood that “be strong” means no crying at all, which have long-term effects on their personality.

They don’t cry to show that they are strong.

Particular hormones and heredity can also affect our response towards sad situations.

5- I CAN’T CRY BECAUSE OF PHYSIOLOGICAL PROBLEM:

Some individuals are unable to shed tears due to physiological issues found in the autoimmune system of their bodies.

These people might be suffering from a situation in which the lachrymal glands are dried, which why it is impossible to flow tears.

6-EFFECTS OF MEDICINES:

An important fact is that many medicines particularly antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications can blur our emotions.

Not all, but some patients consuming these medicines can be affected.

If you are not on these types of medicines but find difficulty in crying then it’s time to immediately visit your doctor.

7-I CAN’T CRY BECAUSE I AM EMOTIONALLY NUMB?

Some people are emotionally numb.

I am not joking there seriously are people like this. Any incident no matter how hurting or how disturbing it is, they just don’t shed any tears.

Most men are like this but some women are also found having no emotional sensitivity.

I had a friend in university for four years. I have had seen all my class fellows crying on one occasion or another, for one reason or another, breaking down or having their low days; but never saw her shedding a single tear in all four years. No matter how tough the situation was.

Initially, I thought that she was emotionally very strong but then with the passage of time and observation I realized that she does not have strong emotional system but she was weak enough that she couldn’t shed tears.

Emotionally null people who do not cry keep every emotion within themselves which makes them more hustled, more unsatisfied.

The diseases like heart attack, high blood pressure are also found in these types of people.

8-INABILITY TO CRY- A FORM OF DEPRESSION?

Depression:

It is a mental illness that needs proper treatment and medication. There are:

  • Different kinds of Depression…
  • Different stages of Depression…
  • Symptoms of Depression…
  • And also different ways of Expression.

Some people when depressed just could not stop crying and are always prone to an emotional breakdown.

On the other side, some people can’t cry or just are unable to grieve through crying. They want to cry but just couldn’t.

This form of Depression is very disturbing as it hinders the chances of getting cured by one’s help as tears don’t fall out and all the emotional energy ( we talked about in above-mentioned points) don’t come out from the person. He/she keeps on suffering and could not take out the burst.

To get them out of this they have to take medication (after consulting the psychiatrist or doctor) or to take the therapy.

9-ALWAYS SOCIALIZING:

Some people are always socializing, like ALWAYS.

They have so many friends in their circle that they kept on meeting them all the time or have family gatherings or are busy in their routines like in job or studies.

They just don’t get the time to have some ME time for them.

They spend their days and nights with friends or family without focusing on what they want in life or from life. They keep themselves busy in making others happy and satisfied but just couldn’t realize what they want.

These kinds of people lack concentration. The concentration here means that they don’t sit down for a while, calm down, close their eyes and think what is going in their life.

Another form of these people who are always socializing is those who are always on social media, always on their mobile phones or laptops on the level that they get addicted to them.

They use their mobile phones even when they are having lunch or dinner or meeting someone, and leave the mobile only when they become asleep.

I have many examples of such people around me as this era is all about social media. These people have no time to cry. Literally!!

Sometimes it’s more about that they are just running from reality and want to live in the fake world. They are just not ready to face the bitter and hard realities of life.

When once in a while they get a chance to have some ME time, they are encountered by so many emotions at a time that they could not handle it easily.

Social media addiction is real and is dangerous. Try to limit its use and give more time to yourself to get a balanced and healthy life.

10-ALREADY HAVE SUFFERED ENOUGH:

  • When we lost someone close to our heart
  • Or just have lost the job and have a family to look after
  • Or someone so close to us is suffering from incurable disease…

Then sometimes we have cried so much that it seems like our tears have dried out. We just don’t feel like crying anymore as we have cried way too much.

We already have suffered enough!!

After suffering from a deep trauma, life becomes so difficult that we might not cry even if we want to and this is the extreme of suffering.

We get cured of this traumatic phase as time passes because time heals our pain. Spending time with someone with whom we can share our pain also helps to heal.

People, who suffer from this condition, where they could not cry because they already have cried much, need

  • Either to be left alone.
  • Or to move on and cope up with the situation.
  • Or they need someone to hold their hand to take them out of this dark phase.
  • All that is needed is for others to identify the condition of the one’s suffering and help them accordingly.

11-ASHAMED OF CRYING- TYPICAL STEREOTYPE:

Have you ever heard sentences like?

  • You are a boy and Boys don’t cry
  • Boys don’t get hurt
  • Boys are not supposed to be upset as it shows their weakness
  • Boys should be as tough as rocks
  • Why are you crying? Are you a girl?

Such Stereotype thinking destroys the personalities of men and they feel ashamed of crying because they assume they are not supposed to cry and never know how to react in hard times of their life.

Being strong is good but if men do not have their emotional breakdown once in a while, even when they are alone, then this could be dangerous!

Tears are supposed to be cried out.

The human system is made in such a way that tears takes out all negative energies out of the human body and help in its proper functioning.

Men who could not release their anger, emotional frustration through tears, chose other ways  that could be dangerous for others e.g. physical, emotional or mental abuse to his wife, child, friend, colleague, employees or some stranger. This sometimes also leads to murder or injuring someone so badly.

Such toughness doesn’t help a man but make their life more miserable.

Men should realize that it’s ok to cry as this is a natural phenomenon and is beneficial for them. The society also needs to understand that it’s very important to raise a boy in a balanced way and to teach them the right values instead of focusing that “Boys don’t cry”!!
